The access floors division within Raised Floor Solutions has secured the contract to design, supply and install access flooring for the construction of a new £114million UPS parcel distribution centre at East Midlands Airport.
The new building is located on a 28-acre site located between the Airport and the M1 and has previously been used for parking. The Airport is already UPS’s operations base in the UK and its anticipated that the new 24-hour facility could generate close to 1000 new jobs by the end of the year, rising to 1400 by 2025.
The new development, which comprises of a 41,800m2 main hub and a 2,600m2 office building, will replace an existing facility within the Airport, and will accommodate the future growth and expansion of UPS’s UK freight and logistic operations.
Access Flooring has designed a raised floor solution for complexes A and D within the new facility; a total area of 3,025m2. The scheme has involved co-ordinating the raised flooring grid with all mechanical and electrical and partitioning works.
The division will supply and install RMG600 Kingspan Access Floors. RMG600 is a medium grade raised floor solution suited to general office environments where a significant volume of services need to be contained within the floor void, such as data and telecoms cabling, electrical power, air conditioning and environmental control and security.
Access Flooring will also install cavity fire and acoustic barriers. A variety of different floor finishes have been specified suited to the different functions of each space.
