Triple Contract on Blackpool Hotel

Raised Floor Solutions has secured the contract to provide steel deck, concrete floors and steel structural roof deck for the construction of Blackpool’s first five-star hotel and a museum dedicated to the famous seaside resort’s rich history.

The £20m Sands Venue Resort Hotel is being constructed on the site of the former Palatine Hotel on Blackpool’s Golden Mile, just doors away from iconic tourist attraction, Blackpool Tower.

Built in 1879, fifteen years prior to the Tower, the hotel was demolished in the 1970’s to make way for a modern entertainment complex called the Palatine Buildings, which over the years was home to several world-famous nightclubs as well as shops and a footbridge linking the complex to the beach front. Most recently, the buildings were home to the Sands Venue, also an entertainment and dining attraction.

Work is well underway, with the former buildings demolished and the Raised Floor Solutions teams now on site.  

Within the complex will be a new £14m Museum, which is being part funded by a National Lottery Heritage Grant. The Museum will be dedicated to Blackpool’s history and will be an immersive state-of-the-art family-friendly visitor attraction with high tech exhibits as well as historic artefacts and film, plus music and performance.

Raised Floor Solutions’ Metaldeck team will be first on site to supply and install 5137m2 of Kingspan MD60 steel decking on to the building’s steel frame. They will work in partnership with sister concrete flooring division, Metcon, who will design and cast 130mm concrete floor slabs on the steel decking with traditional mesh reinforcement. 

Later in the build, Metalroof, RFS’s structural steel roof deck division, will supply and install over 5,000mof Tata D60 RoofDek.

Final completion for the whole complex is scheduled for Summer 2021.
