Raised Floor Solutions has secured the contract to design, supply and install composite slabs for Bruntwood’s radical revamp of the former Rackhams building in Altrincham.
‘Foundation’ is a new mixed-use development created in partnership with Trafford Council and forming phase one of the town’s Stamford Quarter regeneration plans.
The building will comprise 50,000 sq ft of commercial workspace with around 25,000 sq ft of retail and leisure accommodation on the ground and lower ground floors, which will spill out onto an outdoor terrace on Stamford Square.
The building design, by architects BDP, incorporates both a ‘living wall’ in its central atrium and an external green wall intended to improve air quality and reduce noise levels.
Raised Floor Solutions’ composite slabs remit includes the infill of several areas on the ground, first and second floors in the original building alongside work on the new two-storey extension which will house outdoor terraces, a solar panel system, a gym and wellness centre, bike stores and showers.
The contract will be fulfilled by two specialist divisions within Raised Floor Solutions working seamlessly to provide the client with a packaged composite slabs solution and the benefit of a single point of contact.
Metal Deck, RFS’s steel deck contractor division, will supply and install a total of 3022m2 of Kingspan Multideck MD50 for the works, which also include installing large areas of decking on the newly constructed third floor and metal roof structure.
Metcon, concrete flooring contractor, will cast 1759m2 of 150mm and 130mm in situ concrete floor slabs on the steel deck. The composite slabs will be reinforced with a combination of A193 and A142 steel mesh and given an easy float finish.
