Concrete floor contractor, Metcon, has completed the contract to install reinforced concrete floors for Phase Three of Northallerton’s £17 million ‘Treadmills’ development.
Treadmills will see the regeneration of a former Grade II listed prison site lying to the east of the town’s main High Street into a modern mixed use destination.
The scheme is being delivered by Central Northallerton Development Company Ltd; a joint venture between Hambleton District Council and developer Wykeland Group.
Work on Treadmills has been ongoing with the prison buildings on the site already extensively restored and redeveloped. The development is home to a digital education eCampus involving the university of Sunderland and York college, offices and the Centre for Digital Innovation (C4D1) Northallerton; an exciting new digital hub focused on helping tech companies grow and traditional businesses innovate. Retail businesses locating to the site include Lidl and Iceland.
Phase Three involves the creation of a new multiscreen Everyman cinema sitting above three new build restaurants and extensive public realm works to create a central ‘showpiece’ civic square.
The 11,000 sq ft cinema will offer four-screens and 276 seats and will also have it’s own restaurant and licensed bar.
Metcon was appointed by the main contractor on the Treadmills scheme.
The concrete floor contractor cast a 175mm concrete floor slab over the first floor area (1217m²) to accommodate the four cinema screens, bar, toilets and public foyer. A further 150mm concrete floor slab was cast over an area of 166m² for the creation of a plant room. The slabs were reinforced with A252 steel mesh and given an easy float finish.
