About The Royal Liver Building
Metal Deck contractors undertake many projects in Liverpool and The Royal Liver Building is one of the team’s favourite landmarks.
Located at Pier Head and overlooking the River Mersey, it stands at 90m tall and is crowned by a pair of clock towers. The clocks were originally designed to allow passing mariners to tell the time. Each clock tower is 7.6m in diameter; bigger than London’s Big Ben. Atop each tower are the mythical Liver Birds. Legend has it that one bird looks out to sea whilst the other looks inland, protecting residents of the city.
The Royal Liver Building was one of the first constructions in the world to be made using reinforced concrete.
