Metal Deck Completes EMG Contract

Metal Deck, the Steel Decking Contractor division within Raised Floor Solutions, has completed the contract to supply and install metal flooring within a new distribution centre in Derby.

Sergo Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway is a huge 700-acre industrial park comprising warehouses that offer a combined total of 6 million square feet of logistics accommodation.

EMG is perfectly located within four hours drive time of 85% of the UK and is adjacent to East Midlands Airport, the UK’s second busiest cargo airport. It even incorporates a 50-acre Strategic Rail Freight Interchange capable of handling up to sixteen 775 metres freight trains per day and includes container storage and HGV parking.

All of the expected big-name logistics companies have a new base at the park, including Amazon, DHL, XPO Logistics and Kuehne+Nagel.

Metal Deck was appointed by the main contractor to supply and install composite steel decking for the construction of offices at a new 20,240m2 unit, known as EMG220. The unit is the first speculative build at the Park. View the brochure here.

What is Steel Floor Decking?

Floor decking, commonly known as metal decking, is a sheet of thin profiled steel that is used in construction. Most often, the steel floor decking is installed between the horizontal beams of a steel frame building. Reinforced concrete is then cast on top to create a suspended floor slab. Read more about steel decking and the benefits of steel frame and composite concrete floors in construction in our knowledge article – a guide to steel decking.
