Metal Decking & Concrete for ‘Wolf Pack’ Industrial Units

Raised Floor Solutions has won the metal decking and concrete floor contract for the construction of three new industrial units within Hilton Cross Business Park in Wolverhampton.

Wolf Pack’ is a dynamic new 12-acre speculative development located at Junction 1 of the M54. A total of 222,750 sq ft is offered across three individual buildings designed to suit manufacturing, warehousing and distribution customers.

The buildings are being constructed to ‘market leading specification’ and include features that will reduce operational costs and fulfil many of the environment, social and corporate governance ratings used to measure the social and sustainability impact of buildings.

Features include fully fitted office accommodation, air source heat pumps, LED lighting, optimum performance insulated cladding and roof materials, EV ready car parking bays and loading yards and 10% PV roof panels plus reinforced roof structures to support additional PV installation. Some units also feature two level loading and an enhanced power supply. The buildings are targeted to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’.

Raised Floor Solutions was appointed by the main contractor to design, supply and install composite floor slabs for the construction of the new industrial units.  The contract will be fulfilled by RFS’s Metal Deck and Metcon teams working seamlessly to provide the composite steel deck and concrete floor systems.

Metal Deck, the steel decking contractor division within RFS, will supply and install 1588m2 of Kingspan metal decking profile MD60 with a gauge of 0.9mm and 1.2mm.

Metcon, RFS’s concrete floor specialist, will cast a 130mm concrete floor slab on the metal decking reinforced with A142 steel mesh.

What are Composite Floor Slabs?

Composite floor slabs are a type of formwork used in construction. They comprise profiled metal decking onto which is cast a concrete slab reinforced with either steel mesh sheets or steel fibres.

The metal decking acts as permanent formwork to the concrete and, aided by indentations in the surface of the steel floor deck, provides sufficient shear bond with the concrete to allow the two materials to act together compositely.
