Multideck MD146, the long spanning steel floor decking from Kingspan, has been specified for the construction of a contemporary residential scheme in central Norwich.
A former office building is being demolished to make way for a modern new scheme of 27 apartments, which include two penthouses with views over the Norfolk Broads.
The apartments will feature balconies, parking and include access to a communal gym.
Through its specialist steel decking contractor division, Metal Deck, Raised Floor Solutions will supply and install the Multideck MD146 as the first stage of construction of the composite floor systems.
Sister division Metcon, Raised Floor Solutions’ concrete flooring contractor, will then cast a 215mm concrete slab on the steel decking which will be reinforced with A142 steel mesh and given an easyfloat finish.
Long spanning metal deck
Multideck MD146 is one of the longest spanning metal decks on the market. It adopts a trapezoidal profile and was created as a direct alternative to pre-cast concrete planks.
Partnered with a 215mm concrete slab, MD146 could deliver unpropped span widths of up to 5.74m. In a contemporary residential dwelling such as this, it would allow designers to provide vast open plan living spaces uninterrupted by walls or pillars.
MD146 could also be used for the construction of an undercroft car park where the long unpropped spans achieved would allow car park designers to maximise bay numbers due to the reduced number of columns required.
