Raised Floor Solutions has been awarded the contract to supply and install steel deck and concrete floors for the revamp of a major office complex in Manchester city centre.

70 Bridgewater Street has been home to law firm Eversheds Sutherland for the last 20 years.  Now the company is relocating, building owners Credit Suisse Asset Management are taking the opportunity to fully refurbish the five storey building in a £28 million makeover, which includes adding a further 30,000 sq ft with the addition of two new storeys bringing the total floor place to 110,000 sq ft.

The building’s facade will be radically updated to provide an enhanced energy performance and the current accommodation will be reconfigured to provide category A office space with a BREEAM Excellent rating. External terraces and various tenant focused amenities, such as an exercise amenity hub and cycle storage with showers, will be included in the fit out to place wellness and sustainability at the forefront of the revamped scheme.

Raised Floor Solutions has been brought in by the main contractor on the project and is due to start works in August this year.

The contract will be fulfilled by two specialist divisions working in partnership to deliver a complete steel deck and concrete floor solution to the client, with the further benefit of one point of contact for both operations.

Metal Deck, the steel deck contractor within Raised Floor Solutions, will supply and install 5226m2 of Kingspan Multideck MD60, a highly efficient 60mm trapezoidal steel deck profile with a potential span of 4.5 metres, unpropped.

Over the same floor area, Metcon concrete floor contractors, will design and install a 150mm concrete floor slab on the steel deck.  The slab will be reinforced with drama steel fibres and given an easy float finish.

The specification of MD60 as the steel deck for the composite floor slab can reduce the concrete requirement by as much as 20% when compared to other steel decks.

The building is expected to be completed by Q4 2023. The building redevelopment has been designed by OMI Architects.
