The steel deck and concrete floor slabs contract for an extension at the City of Stoke 6th Form College has been secured by Raised Floor Solutions.
The new extension will cost £3.2million and will allow the College to provide an additional 400 new learning spaces, taking the total number of students to well over 2,000.
An additional three storeys are being constructed, located to the rear of the College’s existing building. The new accommodation will include several large science laboratories alongside spaces creating simulated environments for healthcare students to learn and practice everything from blood tests to resuscitation techniques on mannequins.
A number of new general classrooms are being created which will allow subjects to be moved from the current building, freeing up teaching space for new digital related courses.
The college was one of 39 nationwide education providers to be awarded a Government grant from the £83 million ‘Post-16 Capacity Fund‘, receiving £2.8million towards the cost of the build.
Raised Floor Solutions was appointed by the project’s main contractor and will start on site next month.
The composite concrete floor system will be delivered by two divisions within Raised Floor Solutions, each working in partnership to provide the client with a complete composite floor solution via one main point of contact.
Concrete flooring contractor, Metcon, will cast a 130mm in situ concrete floor slab onto the steel deck over an area of 980m2. The concrete slab will be reinforced with A142 steel mesh and given an easy float finish.
The new extension is expected to be completed by the start of 2023.
