We’re super proud that Chris Shaw, one of our stud welding team, is continuing his pledge to raise money for causes in his local community. And this time, he is supporting our very own nominated charity, Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Chris, who is a part time wrestler as well as being a stud welder for RFS, has challenged himself to run 50 miles to fundraise for Derian House and is coming close to his target.
His efforts have even attracted the attention of local news website, The Preston Hub
In an interview with the news team Chris said, “It started to keep active in the first lockdown. I’m a wrestler with the LWF (Lancashire Wrestling Federation) and we set our challenge to run 1000 miles in 30 days to raise money for the wrestling school.
“Since then I have done a few challenges raising money for different charities (Maggie Cancer Centre and Prostate Cancer). Being a Chorley lad, I grew up with Derian House on my doorstep. I went to school just down the road at Buckshaw primary school.
“There are lots of charity challenges but none for Derian House so this is why I just created my own challenge. I’m on track to complete it with a couple of days to spare all being well,” he adds.
By his own admission, Chris is more at home on a stud welding rig or in the wrestling ring than the running track so every pound raised for the appeal will help spur him on to his goal. He says, “It’s tough every time I go out running. I’m not a natural runner – 42 years old and 18 and half stone – so every day can be tough. Once I get out I’m fine but just having the motivation to get out sometimes is the most difficult.”
Help give our stud welder superstar Chris the motivation he needs to smash his goal by donating to his challenge. You can donate either via his Facebook page or via Raised Floor Solutions’ Derian House Just Giving page.
