TRIPLE CONTRACT WIN ON £33M STUDENT SCHEME

RFS has won the contract to design, supply and install composite flooring and structural metal roof deck for The Urban Hub, an exciting new £33M student accommodation scheme located within the UCLan campus in Preston.

The building offers more than 160,000 sq ft of accommodation over six storeys and will provide 425 modern self-contained studio apartments.

Ancillary accommodation will include a gym, restaurant, café, cinema, prayer room, laundry room and library as well as private outdoor spaces and a landscaped roof terrace.

The triple contract will be fulfilled by three Raised Floor Solutions divisions; Metaldeck Steel Decking, Metcon Concrete Flooring and Metalroof Structural Roof Deck.

Metaldeck will supply and install 12,000 m2 of Kingspan Multideck MD60 steel decking before handing over to Metcon to design and install a 150mm concrete floor slab with A193 mesh reinforcement. The Metcon team will then deliver a powerfloat finish.

Metalroof will supply and install 970m2 of structural metal roof deck.

The Raised Floor Solutions teams will start on site in May this year with completion scheduled for December 2021.

About Structural Roof Deck

Structural metal roof decking is a versatile and proven method of roof construction. A liner sheet is used to span across the structural frame of a building, reducing the number of different roof components required, including purlins. It can be used to achieve spans of up to 7400 mm.

Metalroof can supply and install deck profiles depths ranging from 19mm to 200mm, which provides the structural deck for all kinds of built up roof systems, including Single-Ply, and Green Roofs.

The profiled metal decking is combined with insulation and weatherproof membranes to provide superior coverage and is perfect for use in the construction of commercial, industrial or residential buildings.

In addition to standard galvanized or powder coated finishes, the deck can be supplied in aluminium for use in aggressive environments where corrosion protection is essential, such as swimming pools. Perforated acoustic decking is also available where sound absorption is required.

Structural metal roof deck meets stringent legislation regarding performance whilst still offering the designer the freedom of clean internal lines.
