Westminster Works – Composite Flooring Contract for £50m Birmingham Residential Scheme

Project summary

Raised Floor Solutions is proud to have secured the upper floor composite slabs contract through main contractor Torsion Construction. The Westminster Works scheme consists of 220 apartments (Build-to-Rent) across 7 storeys with a £50m gross development value. Westminster Works on Alcester Street in Digbeth, east Birmingham, is the latest residential development in this once-industrial quarter of the city.

  • 18000m² of MD60 various gauge
  • 18000m² of concrete works with an easy float finish
  • Residential (Build-To-Rent) scheme
  • £50m project value
  • Project completion early 2026

Designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects and due for completion early 2026. Westminster Works is a brand-new, luxury residential development on a brownfield site in Digbeth, which received planning approval in May 2018. Situated on derelict manufacturing land adjacent to the Paragon Hotel, this proposal will revive a previously declined area of Digbeth through considered detailing, reflective massing and a celebration of material and craftsmanship; hallmarks of Digbeth’s trading past.

RFS Scope of works

Raised Floor Solutions have been appointed by Torsion Construction to design, supply and install the complete composite upper floor slab construction, consisting of over 18,000m² of Kingspan’s highly specified Multideck 60 with the in-situ concrete slabs following seamlessly after the metal deck installation. The works will be undertaken by our steel decking and concrete flooring divisions, Metal Deck and Metcon, providing our customer with a single point of responsibility for all the upper floor slabs and a fully warranted slab providing a future-proof solution.

The mix of 1 and 2-bed apartments incorporate high levels of sustainability with the use of MVHR and solar photovoltaic (PV). Green roofs will help biodiversity in this once-industrial quarter of the city as well as mitigate some of the urban heat island effects. The development has been designed with a focus on quality, operational efficiency, and long-term environmental sustainability that meet the needs and aspirations of residents.
