Raised Floor Solutions’ Metaldeck Parking division has completed work on the installation of steel decking in a new 1,700 space multi-storey car park at London Luton Airport. This is the first of two car parks planned for the airport. The project was undertaken for Buckingham Group to a design by Hill Cannon.
Raised Floor Solutions were on site for 12 weeks but you can see the car park take shape in just 90 seconds in this time lapse video!
London Luton Airport saw the fastest rate of passenger growth of all major airports in 2015, up nearly 17% on its previous busiest year and is forecasted to increase annual capacity by 50% to 18 million passengers by 2020.
The new short-term car park is part of a wider £110m redevelopment programme, which includes expansion of the airport terminal, a new bus interchange and access road improvements.
Work was completed by Metaldeck Parking and involved the supply and installation of 33,000 sq m2 of steel decking over four-storeys.
Metaldeck Parking has also recently constructed large multi-storey car parks in Northwich, Somerset and Liverpool.
Benefits of Using Steel Decking for Multi-Storey Car Park Construction
Steel floor decking is becoming the most widely adopted method of constructing single and multi-storey car parks in Europe and the UK.
Not only does it deliver a fast track method of car park construction, with the associated benefit of reduced project and labour costs, but it also provides greater flexibility and aesthetic benefits over other more traditional construction methods.
