Multi-storey car park (MSCP) construction specialist, Metpark, is on track to deliver composite car park deck and concrete floors for a new nine-storey, 633-space facility at New Bailey in Salford.
New Bailey sits on the south side of the River Irwell and is close to Spinningfields. It’s an area that is undergoing considerable regeneration with numerous new high volume office and residential development underway.
A multi-storey car park providing 620 spaces was completed in 2014 but is fully occupied on a daily basis. This new facility will provide for the immediate demand as well as future parking requirements resulting from planned new development.
The visually striking new car park has been pre-let to operators, NCP, on a 35-year lease and has been designed by architects AHR. It will be lit by energy efficient LED lighting and will include six electric vehicles charging bays and 20 wide bays.
Work commenced on the scheme in May this year (2018) with Metpark supplying and installing 14,355 m² of Kingspan Multideck MD80 XP.
Kingspan Multideck MD80 is the most frequently specified steel floor decks in car park construction due to its spanning capabilities and cost effectiveness; it’s deep profile provides longer spans of up to 5.4m unpropped and means that less concrete is required to achieve specified slab thickness.
Due to the aggressive nature of the car park environment, the steel floor deck was manufactured in Magnelis™ steel (branded Kingspan XP steel coating). Magnelis™ is a unique metallic steel coating specified for the most aggressive C4 and C5 environments. It can provide up to ten times more protection than standard galvanising, prolonging life span. Magnelis™ is a composition that contains 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium. Magnesium ensures and durable protective outer layer.
Metpark is on track to complete the contract this month (July 2018).
